AMS membranes are special nanofiltration (NF) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes developed for streams that destroy ordinary polymer membranes. Each membrane type is designed for one kind of aggressive medium: acid, alkali or solvent. They let plants recover acids, caustic soda and solvents for reuse instead of neutralising and discarding them.
Key features
- Stable in aggressive solutions for up to 3 years
- Working temperature up to 80 °C, no feed cooling needed
- Working pressure up to 70 bar
- Handles viscous streams, pressure drop up to 1 bar per module
- Spiral wound elements 1812, 2540, 4040 and 8040, with 31, 34 or 46 mil feed spacers
Applications by industry
- Chemicals: organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) and concentration of end products, e.g. in chlor-alkali plants
- Pharmaceuticals: solvent recovery and API concentration, e.g. antibiotics and their intermediates
- Food and beverage: caustic soda recovery from clean-in-place lines
- Paints and coatings: solvent and paint recovery from spent wash streams
- Mining and metals: acid recovery from leaching circuits, electrolysis, electrowinning and galvanizing baths
- Pulp and rayon: caustic and cellulose recovery from pulping liquors
AMS membranes have been used on the market for more than 10 years under harsh conditions.
How to read the element code
Example: AMS-B-4022-8040-B = AMS series, base (alkali) resistant membrane B-4022, 8.0″ diameter × 40″ length, B feed spacer (31 mil diamond). Stability codes: A = acid, B = base (alkali), S = solvent. Standard sizes: 1812, 2540, 4040, 8040. Feed spacers: B 31 mil (0.78 mm), C 46 mil (1.1 mm), M 34 mil (0.86 mm), all diamond type.
