The steam solenoid valve is designed for high temperature and pressure, unlike standard water solenoid valves. It works on the same principle: when energised, the coil lifts the disc and opens the valve; when power is cut, the valve closes. A PTFE seal and a moulded coil keep it reliable in hot steam lines.

Key features

  • PTFE seal for high temperature and pressure
  • Moulded (encapsulated) coil with long life
  • Brass or stainless steel body
  • Coil voltages 220 V, 110 V, 24 V, 12 V
  • Threaded connection for easy installation and maintenance

How a solenoid valve works

A solenoid valve combines an electrical coil with a mechanical valve. When the coil is energised it becomes an electromagnet that lifts the plunger and diaphragm; when power is cut, a return spring pushes them back.

  • Normally closed (NC): closed without power, opens when the coil is energised.
  • Normally open (NO): open without power, closes when the coil is energised.
  • Direct acting: the plunger opens the orifice directly; simple and fast, usually for pressures up to about 10 bar.
  • Pilot operated: the coil opens a small pilot port and line pressure opens the main diaphragm; suited to larger sizes.
  • Semi-direct: combines both, works without a minimum pressure difference.

Installation notes

  • Clean the pipe and install a strainer upstream to keep dirt off the diaphragm.
  • Install the valve in the flow direction marked on the body, with the coil on top.
  • Check that the coil voltage matches the power supply before connecting.
  • Solenoid valves open and close very fast; they are not intended for positions that must stay energised continuously for very long periods.
